132 Avenue Construction Information
Last updated: April 16, 2026
The City of Edmonton has advised Edmonton Catholic Schools that the next phase of the 132 Avenue Renewal Project will begin on Monday, April 20, weather permitting.
This means that construction on 132 Avenue will be reduced to one lane in each direction from 82 Street to 91 Street. Families are encouraged to allow extra travel time and, where possible, use nearby streets for drop-off and pick-up and walk students to school. This will help reduce congestion and improve safety around the school.

What Families Should Expect
While access to St. Matthew will remain open, families should expect traffic congestion and delays, particularly during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. The first few weeks may be especially busy as traffic patterns change and routines adjust.
Families should be prepared for:
- Traffic reduced to one lane in each direction
- Increased traffic congestion near the school
- Temporary changes to drop-off, pick-up, and parking
- Possible detours and delays in the surrounding area
Busing
Yellow school bus loading zones will remain in their current locations. During construction, some ETS and School Special bus routes may be detoured. Up-to-date route and temporary bus stop information is available at edmoton.ca/transitalerts.
Temporary drop-off, pick-up, and accessible parking
Temporary drop-off, pick-up, and accessible parking are available, but space is limited. You are encouraged to use alternative locations to drop off or pick up students, which include parking on nearby streets and walking students to school. For everyone’s safety, families are asked to follow posted signage, use designated pick-up and drop-off zones, avoid stopping in driving lanes or crosswalks, and drop children off from the passenger side when possible.
We are working closely with city officials, Edmonton Transit Service, and yellow bus providers to minimize disruptions and ensure a safe environment for everyone.

The 132 Avenue Renewal Project and its Impact on Our School
This project is part of a City of Edmonton plan to improve infrastructure along 132 Avenue from Fort Road and 127 Street. Planned upgrades include road resurfacing, sidewalk enhancements, new street lighting, and landscaping. While these improvements will benefit our community in the long term, we understand that they may cause disruptions in the short term, particularly when it comes to commuting to and from school. The City of Edmonton worked with Edmonton Catholic Schools and the community beginning in September 2020 to discuss the project and its potential impacts.
Edmonton Catholic Schools is working with city officials, Edmonton Transit Service, and yellow bus providers to minimize disruptions and ensure a safe environment for everyone.
The 132 Avenue Collector Renewal Project is designed to improve safety, accessibility, and traffic flow, with features like traffic calming measures, improved pedestrian and cycling infrastructure, and updated bus and parking zones.
