132 Avenue Construction Information

The City of Edmonton has progressed to the next phase of its 132 Avenue Renewal Project.
132 Avenue is now fully closed from 90 Street to just west of 82 Street. There is no vehicle access to St. Matthew Catholic Elementary School from 132 Avenue. This temporary closure will allow crews to continue to work on the reconstruction and paving of the roads, the removal and replacement of public sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and street lighting.
What to Expect in September
The City of Edmonton currently expects 132 Avenue from 90 Street to 86 Street to reopen before the start of the 2026-2027 school year. However, 132 Avenue east of 86 Street is expected to remain closed until approximately the end of October 2026.
Access from the intersection of 132 Avenue and 82 Street will remain closed while construction continues east of 86 Street. Families travelling to St. Matthew School from the east will need to use alternate routes. Drivers using 82 Street will need to access the school area from 130 Avenue or from 134 Avenue. Access to 132 Avenue west of 86 Street will remain available from 97 Street.
Families should allow extra travel time, particularly during the first few weeks of school, as traffic patterns in the area remain affected by construction.
The City of Edmonton expects to provide additional traffic and detour information in mid-August, and updates will be shared with families as they become available

The 132 Avenue Renewal Project and Its Impact on Our School
This project is part of a City of Edmonton plan to improve infrastructure along 132 Avenue from Fort Road and 127 Street. Planned upgrades include road resurfacing, sidewalk enhancements, new street lighting, and landscaping. While these improvements will benefit our community in the long term, we understand that they may cause disruptions in the short term, particularly when it comes to commuting to and from school. The City of Edmonton worked with Edmonton Catholic Schools and the community beginning in September 2020 to discuss the project and its potential impacts.
Edmonton Catholic Schools is working with city officials, Edmonton Transit Service, and yellow bus providers to minimize disruptions and ensure a safe environment for everyone.
The 132 Avenue Collector Renewal Project is designed to improve safety, accessibility, and traffic flow, with features like traffic calming measures, improved pedestrian and cycling infrastructure, and updated bus and parking zones.
